Chuseok offers a good opportunity to understand Korean culture (Korea.net)
“Chuseok, which literally means autumn evening, is one of the two major traditional holidays in Korea along with Seol, or the lunar New Year Day. While Seol is significant as the start of a year, Chuseok, the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, is the season of harvest after the harsh toiling of farming in spring and summer. So Korean people take this time to thank their ancestors for providing them with good harvest of rice and fruits. During the Chuseok holidays a great many people take long trips to their hometowns to make a reunion of their families and to pay homage to ancestors.” (Originally Published: 9/23/2007; Last DCTKD update: 9/28/2007)
