Impressions of the Program
General Comments
"I would have regretted not going and miss[ing] out on the experience."
"The camp successfully integrated introductions to many elements of Korean martial arts training as well as introductions to historical and cultural influences on Korean life and martial arts."
" Living daily life at Yong-In was truly a cultural experience. For me, it was all new. From the strict martial discipline in class to the unique and interesting food in the cafeteria, living on campus provided a plethora of new and interesting experiences."
Training
"The overall organization of the training curriculum was excellent. If the objectives were to maximize exposure to different aspects of training at young-in, then these objectives were met to my satisfaction. Rates of progression in Judo, Silum, yoga, kuksundo, Gumdo and elite training/conditioning were well suited to the average needs of a diverse U.S. contingent."
"Working out 3 times a day was something new for me. As a full-time computer progammer, I have never had the time to commit to that kind of schedule. I found it exhilarating."
The Korean students "full day training, 6 days a week makes me realize that I could be working harder. On the other hand, I also realized that we full-time working stiff's are not that far off from [those] who train full-time."
" The intensity of the workouts at Yong-In was inspirational. To see the students drilling for 2 or 3 hours straight with the kind of intensity I've only seen at tournaments made it much easier to give a 110% effort during practice."
Highlights
"As far as stories go, Silum was the highlight. Any story is interesting that begins, 'I walked into a room full of half naked men standing around a sand pit'"
