Kukkiwon, Taekwondo HeadquartersNaturally, what is a point of a taekwondo training program in Korea without a visit to the Kukkiwon? Our trip was no exception. In fact, except for a refreshing morning workout, we visited the Kukkiwon before we began our intensive training. We arrived at the Kukkiwon at about 9:30 on the morning of our second day. The excitement of the children especially was very high as we approached the entrance gate with the word "kukkiwon" written in hangul. As we rounded the last turn the Kukkiwon itself materialized in our view and everyone rushed to exit and look around. As the masters (and guest) greeted the Kukkiwon officials inside, the group explored the grounds, the museum, and the store. Unfortunately, the available space inside the store quickly filled and it was very difficult to look around much less make a purchase. People literally had to squeeze their way outside in order to change their minds. The masters met with the Secretary General of the W.T.F, Mr. Kum Hong Lee. Afterwards, the entire group gathered outside the side entrance for several photographs before loading back on to the bus and proceeding to the Olympic Park where Dr. Un Yong Kim made a brief speech welcoming us and wishing a good wishes as the spirit of Taekwondo continues. Afterwards, we all had the opportunity to have a personal photo opportunity with Dr. Kim.
